Collaboration
Data Steward requests assistance from Executive Sponsor if needed.
Collaboration among data stewards will allow the Data Governance Council to resolve discrepancies across business units and systems. This activity is a continuing process, relying on Data Governance Executive Sponsors as needed.
At the discretion of the "owning" data steward, the Executive Sponsors are available to provide support and assistance.
The ongoing role of the Executive Sponsors is oversight of the governance program. The individuals appointed as data stewards meeting as the Data Governance Council work toward the goals established by the Executive Sponsors. One aspect of the continuing role of Executive Sponsors will be to moderate any disputes between the competing interests of the areas represented by data stewards regarding data items.
Data Stewards will report back progress to assure that:
- Institutional data needs are met for both operational support and strategic planning, and ensuring that the right information is available at the right time to meet those needs.
- Institutional data security requirements are met, including monitoring for adherence on a continuing basis. Assure that each item of administrative data has been assigned to the appropriate security level: unrestricted, University Confidential, or Restricted sensitivity. See OIT Policy IS02, Information Sensitivity and Classification for further explanation of each category.
- Business processes within each subject area assure the accurate interpretation, responsible use and protection of administrative data in their functional area are operating.
- Shared data management issues among departments or administrative offices within UNLV are resolved.
