UNLV Data Policies

UNLV Data Policies

Data Stewards are familiar with UNLV Data Policies which are the formal direction from Executive Sponsors.

At the initial meeting of the Data Governance Council, members began a review of each University Data Policy. See the material used a the basis of a Data Policy Discussion

This policy defines what constitutes University Data, and says the University will protect it through security measures, which means working together with OIT to implement security policy. This policy references Office of Information Technology (OIT), Policy Series 400, Policy IS02: Information Sensitivity and Classification.

Data Usage
DA 03 UNLV Data Usage Policy - Ensure that the data assets of the university are not misused.
This is the D R A F T policy in official MS Word format
Use of data depends on the security levels assigned by the data steward.  Policy includes consequences for misuse. This policy references Office of Information Technology Security Policy IS01: Global Information Security Policy for UNLV Information Technology Resources.

Data Integrity
DA 04 Data Integrity and Integration - Ensure that university data has a high degree of integrity and that common elements have common definitions and values
Here is a copy of the policy in D R A F T Official Format, in MS Word

This policy has two huge directives for data stewards. First it establishes a need to work collaboratively across units, with “horizontal” goals that include a broader scope than in the past.  Next it mandates developing a data dictionary, and declares that the data stewards will be responsible for the content.
