Data Governance is the practice of making strategic and effective decisions regarding UNLV's information assets. At UNLV, it assumes a philosophy of freedom of access to University data by all members of the community, coupled with the responsibility to adhere to all policies and all legal constraints that govern that use.
Objectives of Data Governance:
Structure of Data Governance Initiative
Executive Sponsors appoint Data Stewards, and through data policies and other means, provide direction to them. The Data Governance Council is guided by the charge to data stewards from the Executive Sponsors. Work done by the Data Governance Council will be tracked and documented on this web site - refer back to it for periodic progress updates.
This structure is formalized into policy as DA01 - Data Policy 01 - Data Governance Structure - Open a an MS Word version of DA01 Data Governance Structure - which encapsulates in policy the content of the Roles and Responsibilities section of the site. It also references the Data Management Proposal that was approved by CIOC in March 2005, and by Cabinet in April 2005.
