UNLV is a doctoral degree-granting institution of 28,000 students and 3,300 faculty and staff. Founded in 1957, the university offers more than 220 undergraduate, master's and doctoral degree programs. UNLV is located on a 350-acre campus in dynamic Southern Nevada and is classified in the category of research universities (high research activity) by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
UNLV's distinctive programs include a world-class College of Hotel Administration; the fully accredited William S. Boyd School of Law; a School of Public Health; a nationally recognized honors program; a community-involved environmental studies program; international education opportunities; accredited architecture, social work, and business schools; a physical therapy program; strong liberal and fine arts, engineering, and science programs; and numerous research centers and interdisciplinary programs. The university is also home to the International Institute of Modern Letters.
UNLV's main campus, located minutes away from the Las Vegas Strip, features a 300,000 square-foot library as its centerpiece. Among the construction projects currently underway are a science and engineering building, featuring more than 200,000 square feet of laboratory and research space, and Greenspun Hall, the new home for the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs. The 121,000 square-foot, five-story building will bring increased classroom space and updated broadcast studios for UNLV's radio and television stations. The university is also currently engaged in the development of "Midtown UNLV," a long-term, public-private endeavor aimed at creating a culturally diverse university district.
UNLV's regional Shadow Lane campus stands on 18 acres in the heart of the downtown Las Vegas medical district. This campus is home to the UNLV School of Dental Medicine.
In 2008, UNLV's first international campus, UNLV Singapore, will celebrate its second anniversary. The 12,000 square-foot campus is housed on the tenth and eleventh floors of the National Library of Singapore, a prestigious building comparable to the United States Library of Congress. UNLV Singapore offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in hotel administration and hospitality management.
The CDS represents a joint effort by The College Board, Peterson's, U.S. News & World Report, and Wintergreen/Orchard House, Inc., to standardize data definitions and data elements commonly used in surveys of higher education institutions. The objectives of this standardization initiative are to reduce the time and effort spent by data providers and improve the quality and comparability of the resulting information. To meet these ends, Peterson's and the other CDS publishers incorporate CDS items and definitions into their annual surveys of undergraduate institutions and label them as such.
The CDS currently includes sections profiling institutions' general information, enrollment and persistence, freshman admission, transfer admission, academic offerings and policies, student life, expenses, and financial aid.
Questions and concerns about the CDS can be addressed by contacting Peterson's Research Department using the e-mail form below or by subscribing to the CDS listserve and sharing your comments with the participating publishers, college and university data providers, and other interested parties. To subscribe, send an e-mail to cds@cb1nyo.cblist.edu with the subject-line blank and the following message: subscribe cds-collegeboard
