Enrollment Mart Enhancements (August, 2013)

The following describes the package of enhancements deployed for the Unofficial Enrollment Census Data Mart in August, 2013. In addition to a number of architectural improvements designed to facilitate integration of enrollment data with future data marts, the following additions are available for report writers in UNLV Analytics.


Daily Captures

The Unofficial Enrollment Census Data Mart originally provided access to weekly snapshots.  Now, daily snapshots are available with more options for selecting capture dates of interest:

  • The new element Most Recent Flag can be used in reports to always display the most recent data available – typically data from the night before.
  • New Days Relative and Weeks Relative elements simplify selecting dates for point-in-time comparisons across terms.

Snapshots are typically taken six days a week, with Saturdays generally excluded.


New Course Characteristics and Class Meeting Details

Instructor and meeting pattern details for courses are now available, as well as class enrollment caps.


Weighted Student Credit Hours

Two measures have been created to support the new funding formula.  Weighted SCH is derived by multiplying student credit hours for an enrollment by an appropriate NSHE course taxonomy weighting factor, based on course discipline and division.  Weighted Formula-funded SCH applies the same weighting to SCH from courses that are considered state-supported (i.e. formula-funded).  It excludes SCH from courses that are self-funded.


Application and Admission Elements

Elements relating to an enrolled student’s application record are now available, such as the application submission date, the admission term, and the admission type.


Current and Historical Organization

In the original data mart, the College/Department organizational structure was presented as it existed on the day of the data capture.  While this remains available, we have also added new elements that apply the current organizational structure to the historical data.  Using the new elements, analyses of past data can now be conducted in the context of the modern organizational structure.


Organizational Drill-downs

Automatic college- and department-level drill-downs are now available in the data mart.  When viewing a report by College Name of Plan or College Name of Course for example, links on the college name navigate to the departments for that college.  Drilling continues to the plan, course, and student levels.


Description Elements

Most elements representing a code of some kind, such as Term Code, now have corresponding Description elements, which describe the meaning of the code in a report.  Some also have abbreviated descriptions, or long formal descriptions which are titled Abbreviated and Formal respectively.
